COLA & JIMMU
Recording artists Jimi Tenor & Nicole Willis who have been collaborators, reunite for their new project, artist name Cola & Jimmu, “Cola”, a kind of pseudonym of Nicole and “Jimmu”, associated with the legend of the first emperor of Japan, Jimnu Tenno.
Both Tenor and Willis have fronted their own projects over the past decade, Willis most recently working with Helsinki – based group The Soul Investigators, for their albums Happiness In Every Style, Tortured Soul & Keep Reachin’ Up, (2015, 2013, 2005, Timmion Records). Tenor contributed horn arrangements, backing vocals, flute and vibraphone as well as composition to the 3 albums in the collaborative effort of Willis & the Soul Investigators. Tenor & Willis also wrote and recorded tracks from release of Tenor’s Call Of The Wild, from the LP Out Of Nowhere, (2000, Warp Records). As of late, Jimi Tenor collaborated with Tony Allen for their LP on Strut Records 2009, Inspiration Information Volume 4, eclectic Itetune on Temmi Kongi 2011, with Abdissa Assefa, & the self titled Soft Focus with Lary 7 on Tommi Grönlund’s Puu/Sähko Recordings 2013.
Willis & Tenor have roots in dance – floor music with there separate success’ such as Tenor’s techno classic Take Me Baby, & Willis’ neo – soul Brooklyn based project Repercussions, Promise Me Nothing which peaked at # 6 on Hot Dance Music, Club Play chart of Billboard Magazine. Cola & Jimmu revisit house, which bares so many monikers. Cola & Jimmu title it “deep house revival”. Willis offers vocals and production savvy, as well as additional chords. Tracks like 369º Grind simmer, and act as the diving board into the body of work that is Enigmatic, 10 tracks. So Refined is an instant classic, in respect to fine wining & dining. As well Wild Honey, with it’s swelling funk chorus.
Their follow up album, I Give To You My Love And Devotion was released in the summer of 2014, and it didn’t fail to please. With the minimal tracks I Give To You and Earthly Delights, Cola & Jimmu rocked future dance floors. Open Up Your Chakra proved to be a summer radio hit. Cola & Jimmu are holed up in the recording studio for composition of their third album, expected to be ready for 2016. Expect more dance grooves with a funky swing.
