The show went great, the guys didn’t miss a beat or a minute in the 12 years since they all assembled together for the Jimi Tenor Big Band tour in 2003. The compositions of car chase jazz and soul-funk anthems were amazing to revisit and the all star line up shined. Terry Edwards, straight back from Adelaide’s Blow The Bloody Doors Off! and the live audience recording sessions for a new PJ Harvey album, played baritone sax to full effect. A toga-ed Jay Kortehisto sang background vocals as well as manned the trombone in a break from his leads in rhythm & blues outfit, Screaming Jay and the Bones. Timo Lassy & Jukka Eskola showed excellent chops, along with the other great musicians, Hilary Jeffrey, Timo Hirvonen, Tero Lindberg, Abdissa Assefa, Ilkka Mattila, and Jussi Lehtonen. Wifu Nicole Willis sang Call Of The Wild after a surprise invitation to join the band. Let’s hope for 50 more years of big band arrangements and killer tunes.
